ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS – PASTOR Bill Ivy – TUESDAY – JUNE 9, 2026
Are we all the same? If so, is it wrong then to live a separated life, preaching and teaching there is a difference in the many who identify as “Believers.”
Abraham loved his nephew Lot like a father would a son. Lot was the son of his brother Haran and after the death of Haran he took him as his own. Lot was never a spiritual person and always a problem for Abraham, despite his love for Lot. He was a type of a make-believer that could never be what Abraham was (a true believer), even being blood-related and loved by his uncle (Genesis 11:27-31).
Were they the same?
Yes, you would think they were the same, however, to God they were not and He knew there must be a separation between the two. It was strife between them that brought a separation so that God could fully bless Abraham (Genesis 13:7-10). Move ahead several hundred years, Lot becomes a great nation of Moab and a persecutor of Israel Abrahams descendants.
Are they the same?
Balak a descendent of Lot becomes king of Moab, hires a false Prophet Balaam to curse Israel as the nation camped near Moab. The only relationship they had to Israel now was one of disrespect and opposition, and to spiritually attack them through the counsel of Balaam.
In their approach to God the prophet Balaam looked to be the same as the Prophet Moses (Numbers 23:4). Was Israel and Moab the same? No more than all “Believers” are the same.
As a “Believer” we all hold too one central truth, “God sent a prophet” – does that make us the same. Our mutual enemy would like you to believe it.
When Balaam could not curse Israel, he devised a plan that would make God curse them. He did it with the lie, “we are all the same” come worship with us at our meeting they fell for the lie and defiled their separation and brought death to Israel.
Don’t believe the old lie when you hear it and you will – “we are all the same.” God’s Word still calls for a total separation from unbelief which defiles our separation, even when “the wrong looks more spiritual than the right.” It will still bring spiritual death.
QUOTE: When Balaam added the word, that, “We’re all the same,” they, God never did forgive Israel that. Every one of them perished in the wilderness, except the three that God brought out.
Jesus said, “They’re, every one, dead,” that’s Eternally separated. They’re all gone; never was forgiven. It’s a unpardonable sin; never forgiven them. Oh, my!
Flee it, children of the evening Lights!
