As we begin to think about the resurrections of Christ, we also can reflect on His death! Something marvelous was taking place before the resurrection, while his body was in the tomb. The life had left that precious body, a body that was the temple that God himself lived in among mankind. Heb 10:5 “Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me.” This man that was called Jesus Christ, even though his body was in the grave, His Spirit was still at work; 1 Peter 3:18-20 “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison…” NKJV. He went to hell and called satan’s bluff, taking from him the keys of death and hell. He then entered paradise and brought forth those Old Testament Saints who had been waiting under the substitute sacrifice of lambs for their redeemer to come. It would soon be time for their resurrection also. Christ died on Friday to pay the price of redemption, as that perfect Lamb of God, in a few hours Christ would raise himself from the dead proving he was not just a man, but God, the one and only God. He was the redeemer that was promised from the Garden of Eden! While His body lay lifeless before the resurrection, He was not idle, but very much alive, fulfilling scripture that spoke of him! Ps 16:10 “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” Oh, how wonderful! He was conquering, even in death!
“I can see Him reach over and get the devil by the neck, said, “Satan, you’ve been a bluff for a long time.” Hallelujah. “But I’m the virgin born Son of God. The sin question’s over. My Blood’s still wetting Calvary’s cross yonder, and the Father has accepted It. You’ve got no right to haunt and fool people any more. So give Me them keys of death and hell; I’m taking over down here.” Hallelujah. Slapped him over to one side and slammed the door in his face, started back up. There’s another group setting over yonder waiting, the righteous in paradise.” – William Branham, from the sermon, The Faith of Abraham.
