THOUGHT OF THE DAY
THANKSGIVING, what is it? For us that live in these United States of America, it is known as a pubic celebration of Divine goodness. George Washington began this custom at the birth of our country. Abraham Lincoln during the time of civil war, in the midst of so much pain and suffering, made it an official national holiday. He told our nation we should still count our blessings in spite of the terrible conflict we were involved with.
“No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”
As Christian’s we cannot ignore the signs of the times all around us. They can be very troubling, and even painful. The confusion that is in this world comes so close that it will almost break your heart! However, in the midst of all the evil that is present, we are blessed.
COUNT YOUR BLESSING NAME THEM ONE BY ONE, COUNT YOUR BLESSING SEE WHAT GOD HAS DONE.
I can say today; He (Christ) knows me, He has made a way for me, He has called me by his Grace and I have excepted it by faith. Every day is a miracle and a public celebration of Divine goodness that has come to the Christian.
Thanksgiving comes from the heart of God, not our outward circumstances.
Have a happy THANKSGIVING always, and even if things have not been so good this year for you – look deep into the heart of God, I think you will find something very special for you! Col 3:15 …be ye thankful.
