We have heard those words used publically a lot lately.  It is Latin for; a favor or advantage granted or expected in return for something.  It is very simply something we all do, for example as parents to children; “if you clean your room I will let you watch a favorite video” or a teacher might tell her students; “this test is very hard, however if the class does well, there will be a special reward for the entire class.”

Of course it could be used in a very bad sense as well.

God used it often in the Bible, as a very useful statement to declare His favor or disfavor.

This is a quid pro quo in the Bible;  Eph 6:2 “Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”

Another quid pro quo in the Old Testament; Ps 37:3 “Trust in the LORD, and do good ; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”

Quid pro quo is not a bribe but a simple phrase; “something for something.”

The Apostle James in his Epistle use the phrase as follows; James 4:8 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” He was saying, if we make a move toward God, God will be right there to meet us!  He will not force Himself on you, he is not a bully or bribing you.  God is not a politician or a deal maker.  He gives mankind a grand opportunity to take advantage of His Eternal life if we except it, as in the following quid pro quo; John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.”

Christ is God’s answer to the world’s problems, but the world will not except His “quid pro quo” as something good, but they reject it as something that is bad.

How does this relate to the “MESSAGE” and the things we believe?

We are living in an evil age, none can deny. We believe it to be the final age of the church and the ending of the world. As Believers our salvation is secure, however we have been giving a quid pro quo to overcome. Rev 3:21 “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”

There is a reward of Rapture to the Overcomer? That is not a bribe but a challenge to every believer.

What do you have to overcome? There is something we all have to overcome. Someone will! “Oh LORD, let me show my faith and respect to you by overcoming all in this old world!”

William Branham (1909-1965)

Bro. Branham in the sermon titled THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB said it like this:

“So many says, ‘If the Lord will take this evil spirit from me, from drinking, or from gambling, or from lying, or stealing, I’ll serve Him.’

But that’s up to you. See, you got to do something, too. ‘They that overcome shall inherit all things.’ They that overcome. You have power to do it, but you must be willing to lay it down. See? ‘She has made Herself ready.’ I like that Word.

You see, God could not push us through a little pipe, pull us out on the other end, and then saying, ‘Blessed is he that overcometh.’ You had nothing to overcome; He just pushed you through. But you’ve got to make decisions for yourself. I have to make decisions for myself. In doing that, we show our faith and respects to God.”
