The great Apostle Paul knew his days were numbered like all men.  Though he was an apostle and a prophet, he was still mortal.  Writing to young Timothy, his son in the gospel he said; 2 Tim 2:1 “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”  Paul was INVESTING in younger leaders that were to follow.  He believed the LORD was soon to come, but if He tarried, another generation would  have to carry the message on.

As the messengers that carry the Word grow older, the message remains the same, it does not compromise with time or generational progress.  But it must continue on in its purity and we all have a responsibility to that continuation.

Paul set a good example; it did not harm his ministry to prepare and encourage those which he observed to have a genuine calling in their life.  He did this by pointing them to the same message he preached.  He also encouraged their future by lifting these younger leaders up before the people; 1 Cor 4:17 “For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.”

The Apostle Paul while Investing in younger leaders was actually helping his own ministry to be more fruitful even while he lived.  This can be hard for many of us older leaders.  We must always remember, investing in younger ministries, is also an investment in our own God given ministry!

In the Old Testament, God invested in young Samuel, and young David for many years until they came to their full potential.  David invested in Solomon, and he brought a natural millennium of prosperity to the nation of Israel, and a Temple of worship that would be second to none at the time.  David’s investment in Solomon did not diminish what God had called David to do!

In the sermon “THINGS THAT ARE TO BE” quoting from Rev. William Branham (1909-1965); ” As I’m beginning to get old, and know that my days are numbered, and know now that these young men can take this Message and sweep It on to the Coming of the Lord, if He doesn’t come in my generation. Which, I’m hoping to see Him. I look daily for Him, watch, keeping myself prepared for that hour.”

To invest time and energy in younger leaders is a important investment, and will further what God has called you and me to do!
