There is a real danger in HUMAN LEADERS in the church. God never intended HIS church to be run by man! It is like a cancer that destroys the church from within! It is a spirit that GOD hates, and his Bride hates as well. It began in the first church age and continues until the end. It has a name; NICOLAITANS! Rev 2:6 “But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.”
I am afraid to many are following human leaders, a church, an ideology and not Christ! The Apostle Paul condemned it in his writings to the Corinthian church; 1 Cor 3:4 “For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?” Carnal Christians, thinking they were the most spiritual in the land! Notice; Paul included himself in this scripture, even though he was a Prophet Messenger to that first church age!
WHAT DID BROTHER WILLIAM M. BRANHAM TEACH ABOUT LEADERS?
In a sermon preached by Reverent William Branham (1909-1965) he said the following; “Now, notice, if God intended His Church to be run upon intellectuals, then it doesn’t take the Holy Spirit to do anything in the Church. …Then we should find the smartest man we could find to be our pastor. And the biggest buildings that we could build, and the more members we could get into our church, and root out the illiterate, and bring in the intellectual, better the church would be, if that is the program…
But I can’t find one place in all the Holy Scriptures where God’s Church is to be run upon the wisdom of men. And as long as we try to run it upon the intellectual of man, we are absolutely fighting the air.
God’s Church is to be run up by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Then if we have the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is going to run the Church, then it doesn’t take too much intellectual. It doesn’t take education. It takes the Holy Spirit; that’s God’s program.” – William Branham
The Holy Spirit places God called men, according to scripture (Ephesians 4:11), servants of Christ that lead by the Holy Spirit. They must be willing to follow the Holy Spirit and not the leadership of MAN to be able to properly do what they have been called to do.
Again, as Reverent William Branham spoke in his Church Age teachings concerning these things; “God never intended the church to be run by men. God runs His church, and He runs it through gifts of the Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit is in the church to correct the spirit. He’s got five ministerial offices in His church. …Apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, pastors, now, that’s the elected offices of God to His church.”
THE GUIDING FORCE IN THE CHURCH
The Holy Spirit must be the guiding force that leads those that lead the church. Not merely the following of a great MAN or a great church! God does not and never has used the greatness of man, which is foolish to God. It is sad that today what is foolish to God has become so great to so many!
The church is represented as a woman (Bride), and as a woman she wants a man, however, many times she goes after the wrong man. Look at the Apostle Paul’s fear; which is also the fear of every true minister; 2 Cor 11:2 “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
That is the Danger in Human leaders, a man that people will exalt above the Word of God, then letting that be their Holy Ghost. Nicolaitanism is organization, humanizing the leadership of the church, and thereby deposing the Spirit. May we all return to the true leadership, as Bro. Branham preached in a sermon by the same name; “Your priest, your leader, or so forth, can teach you your religion, you can learn the Message that we are trying to teach, but still that won’t give you Eternal Life. You’ve got to accept the Person, Jesus Christ. You understand that, all of you? Got to accept the Person, Jesus Christ, to have Eternal Life. Now, but sometimes other leadership gets so much influence on us till we don’t know what to do then when that time comes.”
